Are you a teacher who dreams of having a profitable business?
If you are set to make money with a side-hustle as a teacher, while improving your practice, you’re in the right place.
Perhaps that familiar phrase “I don’t see myself teaching forever” has been thrown about once or twice, or maybe you never want to leave the profession but want an interest or revenue stream outside of the four walls of the classroom.
This website and all of my work is about inspiring, teaching and supporting educators from around the world to start and optimise their entrepreneurial journey, that will make the world, and the classroom a better place a better place – By learning the skills needed for a freelance economy, we, as teachers can help prepare our students for the work force they’re about to enter.
And hey, the extra income is pretty cool too.
My journey: From overwhelmed, overweight and time poor to healthy, unbeatable, and an Edupreneur.
My name is Vince Massara, I started teaching over five years ago and love every second in the classroom.
However, this wasn’t always the case. I grew up overweight, or what you would politely call ‘jolly’. I hated the way I looked, the way I felt, and my general attitude towards life suffered as a result.
These feelings were multiplied when I began my teaching career. I started teaching with the idea that I was going to be the best role model for my students. However, it was difficult to be a positive role model when I wasn’t even happy with myself.
I wanted to make changes to my lifestyle to be the best person, and the best teacher I could be. I began a journey of self-help books, training, and countless hours of further learning. Through that, I was able to create systems to facilitate change. Since then I have become living proof; Fifty kilograms lighter, a lot healthier, happy in the classroom, happier outside of the school and able to manage my time and my goals.
From there I began my career as an Edupreneur. Or, should I say that I fell into it. I always wanted a little than what the classroom offered. While I absolutely adore teaching, and my students, there is more than being solely a teacher. I studied marketing before my switch to education and had always had an interest in starting a business; it was only a matter of time until I began my private ‘genius hour’.
Why start a business? Why Knot?
I started Why Knot Ties on a whim and a want to give everybody that feeling of confidence you can only get from looking good. Juggling starting a business while teaching had its challenges. However, many of the same systems that facilitated my weight loss also eased the launch of my new side-hustle.
From helping with friends’ weddings to being featured in GQ, Fashion magazine, and working exclusively with Australian megastore, Myer, Why Knot Ties grew from strength to strength. Do you know what else happened? My teaching went from strength to strength alongside it.
Solving new problems, learning different skills, recharging my brain, and better time management resulted in me becoming an even better teacher. I suggest every teacher start a business. Also if you want to teach for your whole career, you will gain so much from the different skills that you will learn.
Besides, who knows, you may even like it.
But you already know that part. That’s why you’re here.
This website was born
I started this website to give value to like-minded teachers, those who want the best for themselves and their students.
On the site and through the newsletter I share everything you need to know from about balancing starting a successful business and being a teacher. There are articles on goal setting, starting a business, personal development, mindfulness, wellness, teacher health, and so much more.
